Am I being selfish?

Question

So there was this recent article in Shine: shine.yahoo.com/parenting/41-pregnant-204100763.html and it was discussing that 70% of women over 55 were uncomfortable with the idea of a woman in her 40s having babies - and it is "selfish" to wait that long.

​I'm 37. And just started dating someone and we are discussing babies - hence Glow - but up till now I simply was not at the right place. I just don't feel that I am being selfish waiting this long...

​Does anyone feel this way?

My gf is 31 and her man is 65. They hv just had 2 in 2 yrs. howzat!

P.s don't get me started on the over 55's baby boomers calling younger people selfish! Pot, kettle, black anyone?!

Who cares what other people think? It makes perfect sense to wait until you're ready! I'm in my mid 30's TTC #2 and I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure it may take longer to conceive, increased risks blah blah but what's the alternative?  It's not like you can go back in time! Of course plenty of people are ready ( and able- hello decent relationship where were you in my 20's?!) when they're younger than I was but again it's a personal thing. Fingers crossed things work out for everyone!

I'm 30 and I just started TTC for the 1st time in my life. There is no guarantee I'll have a healthy baby in the next decade! We can't foresee the future. You are not selfish for waiting until you feel ready to try to have a child...I think the more selfish route would be to have a baby at a time when you are completely ill prepared to provide a loving stable home for your baby!

I don't think so. I mean, I am not even in my 30s yet and I am currently TTC my second, but I tell my sisters to wait. Wait and do everything they want to do in life. They don't have to care what society has to say about them. My sister just turned 21 and I would like her to wait until she's past 30. She's about to finish college and head to law school and her getting her education has always been her goal and having a child at this time will just make her goal just a tad bit harder to accomplish. So no, I don't think it's selfish to wait. We have one life...we gotta live it up when we can!
