Am I wrong to be upset?

Question

So about 6 months ago, my husbands cousin and his wife had to surrender their cat (that they only had for a year) to the humane society because it got urinary stones and they couldn't afford treatment. They're both on welfare. Well yesterday they decided to get a puppy. After surrendering the first animal they couldn't care for, they decide to get another???!! And this poor puppy.... I mean, I'm a vet tech so I know she needs to be dewormed, be vaccinated, spayed plus food...it's costly! Anyway, I thought it was extremely inappropriate for them to get another animal after not being able to care for their first pet but most of my husbands family are being supportive? I can't be wrong for feeling this way?

Nope you're not wrong. I'd be reporting this to whoever is concerned. If they couldn't afford to keep a cat and their circumstances haven't changed, they have no reason to be getting a dog which comes with even more more responsibility than a cat.

You aren't wrong at all. One of the people I went to school with got a cat he couldn't afford, she had GI problems, an eye infection and needed all the other routine checkups that came with owning an animal.

3 days after owning her. He decided he had to put her down because he couldn't afford her. Thankfully he went to my vet and my vet has a policy of if the animal is still able to be saved (medication, etc) they will take the animal into their care and force to owner to give them up.

Today she is a healthy and happy 4 year old cat.

I would really report them if you could. That poor dog doesn't need that kind of BS.

No, you're not wrong for feeling that way. A lot of people do. I wish I could offer you up some advice, other than maybe trying to help out if you can with food and or vet care, or calling the humane society. You could also try talking to them. Other than that, there's not much you can do, I'm afraid.

Gosh I knew a few people that did this constantly with multiple animals it's sad. You are right go be upset about it. They shouldn't own a pet if they can't care for it.

No. That's so wrong of them. How dare they do that. Not to mention that cat was probably put down. What's gonna happen if the dog gets sick or something? That's unbelievable😞 some people man...

You aren't wrong at all. Personally I can't stand ppl like that because I have worked in a shelter and have seen the things that us humans can do to poor animals. I believe if you can't take care of the first one then don't get another one.  I have 11 animals between my wife and I. 7 dogs and 4 cats.  Each month they are given flea meds, dewormed and ivermectin. If they get sick they go to the vet if it is something that I know is serious. They all have been spayed and neutered as well as UTD on shots. Most of them are rescues though and we love them no less. Some people don't think when they go get another pet. It is a big responsibility.

Your not wrong and it's definitely irresponsible. However there are days humane society provides free vaccinations and spaying (idk how to spell it or if that's the correct term). Where I live I believe it's the first 2 Wednesdays of every month that they allow u to come in and vaccinate, chip or spay your animal.

You are not wrong.  If you can't afford to keep yourself andnyour family. Why the heck are you taking in a dog. It's just another expense and that poor dog deserves a home that can love him

My mums neighbours are like that 🙄 they've had so many animals and just get rid of them without a second thought then a week later they'll get another puppy or kitten. Every single cat/kitten they've had has gone into my mums house for shelter. Their 6 children are like wild children and terrorise the animal and the animals ends up being left outside in all weather conditions, meowing at the front door to get in or cowering under the pile of rubbish at the side of their house. We reported it to the RSPCA but nothing was done 🙄
