Mental Health
Would you agree with doctors including mental health exams for men and women trying to have children? I know several places do a full exam and background check on the person or persons trying to foster/adopt. Personally I feel it should be the same for anyone else trying to have children. I know it would be impossible to do this for everyone but what are your thoughts? & why or why not?
Update: I am NOT saying that anyone who has a mental illness should be denied the right of parenting. People all around us are suffering from mental illnesses and living their lives day to day like any other person. I do however feel that if a case is severe, to the point where they could hurt themselves and or a child, and that person is sexually active, bigger precautions should be taken.
I work with children who suffer from parents or guardians with severe mental illnesses and it just breaks my heart. The numbers of children keep growing, and the help is little- I just wish there was something else that could be done.
