Have you had preeclampsia?

Is pre-e something that tends to come on quickly, or over the course of a few weeks? And does your blood pressure tend to stay elevated, or is it high in spurts?

I had postpartum preeclampsia

For me personally I started having slight symptoms (headaches, vision disturbances) for a week then swelling started for a week and then the next thing I know I was admitted to the hospital with severe preeclampsia (borderline eclampsia). So it can happen fast.

It can be either way. Sometimes it's caught and managed through pregnancy, sometimes it progresses quickly and the mother needs to be induced early. In my case, I had signs at week 38, and was induced at week 39. This time around, we're keeping a close eye as I am 37 weeks. Mine was mild, trace amount of protein in urine, high bp, and swelling. This time I'm having headaches and high bp, but so far no protein in urine. It's scary, but if caught, you're usually okay within a few days after delivery or are given medication and instructions on how to keep your bp down until baby is safe enough to deliver.
