If you're originally from a country outside of the US of America, do you feel the stereotype that is so often discussed about US Americans- fits your typical US American?

I'm talking about your typical US American, you know the ones who think the states are the best country in the world, that everything is equal etc. etc. NOT your progressive US American, you guys are the few - trust me.

& PLEASE if you are a real BORN & BREAD US American, don't answer. ☺️

Sorry in advance but when I think of this stereotype I don't think of it applying to all Americans, just those in the South. Not trying to offend that's just what comes to mind at first.

I've asked my flat mate from Oman this question before:).

She said yes😂 she's gone to college here for four years as an exchange student and admits that Americans seem very self centered and obsessed with U.S. Power. 
in comparison to the other countries she has visited and stayed in (she liked Sweden a lot).

When I was looking for an apartment to rent she was actually really nervous that I'd be an American and not an exchange from the Middle East (we have a lot of middle eastern exchange students which is really cool). But! She got me😂 progressive, open minded, and very conscious of what's okay and what isn't in regards to her religion.

The roommates she had prior was very disrespectful. So I imagine that and her being a community manager at the school has exposed her to many kinds of people. The roomie Would have boys over without letting her know so she'd have to rush around to get covered, thought it was funny to make pork product meals and try to give them to her.

On the positive side she said she thinks Americans wouldn't stand by being overcharged for our products, like in Oman bath and body works is really expensive but here it's not. Which isn't entirely true 😂

This doesn't mean her home is perfect by the way. This is just about Americans right now.

I'd be interested to hear different people's take on what a stereotypical American would be. I wouldn't be offended, it'd just be interesting to see if the perspective varies.

I'm from the States, but a lot of people on here fit stereotypes I have for different parts of the U.S.

There's a tiny handful of people that I talk to that don't meet an American stereotype (and a few still on here). But the majority of you guys are stereotypical Americans 🤷‍♀️

I'm born and bred American and I find this to be true. I'm so "unpatriotic" if I criticize anything that is "typically" American. I've been told numerous times by fellow Americans "why don't I just leave" if I suggest that maybe we aren't the greatest in the world *gasp*, that our military and our soldiers (who are human) have flaws *double gasp*, or God forbid I mention anything about believing we should get more serious about gun control laws. And it really is all over the place. I live in "liberal, progressive" California and have my whole life, this is where I've predominantly gotten those remarks since it's the only state I've ever lived in. It's hard bc at the same time I feel an inner drive to defend my country, but the attitudes here don't always make that so easy. True, it's not all Americans, but I definitely wish it were less than what it actually is.

We are from Canada and have lived in Texas and NY for my husbands job. The south is a mess. We loved living in WNY. Texans I didn't think were friendly and the crime was crazy. We met a lot of great people but a lot of Texans were strange and self centered.

Maybe it's the area I live, but I feel most people here are "progressive thinking" Americans.
