TTC with CM and OPK No BBT

I've been TTC for 7 months now. I have irregular periods and bought the Clearblue Advanced opk 2 months ago. I was trying to figure out when I was Ovulating by checking my CM but I'm having a hard time. I'm 35. I never seem to get the egg white STRETCHY CM, but I do get the flashing High Fertility and Peak Fertility smiley face with the opk. Does anyone have any tips to help determine the right CM, mine gets egg white-ish but not clear and stretchy. Also, if the opk recognizes I'm ovulating, is there still a chance I may not be?
