Contraceptives After Birth?

I'm a FTM (17 weeks + 3 days) and I'm wondering what people use for birth control after their babies are born if you're breastfeeding. I keep forgetting to ask my midwife and I don't see her again until next week. I thought I read you couldn't take oral contraceptives if you're breastfeeding, so what else are you supposed to do? A coworker told me I'd be "fertile-myrtle" after he's born (her exact words) 😂😂

I was given different options at the hospital after I had my second son. I chose the Depo-provera shot. You get a shot every 3 months and that's it! No pills to forget which is what led to my second son being a year and a half younger than my first 😂.

When we decided it was time for baby 3 I just didn't get my next shot. It takes about 3-6 months average to conceive after getting off the shot. I had my last shot in April '16, we used condoms until we were ready and we started TTC in November '16 we are now 10w and due Nov '17 😊👶🏼

You can use an iud or the mini pill which is progesterone only which doesn't disrupt breastfeeding. The combination pills contain progesterone and estrogen which does disrupt breastfeeding.

I believe you can take the mini pill whilst breastfeeding that's what I was prescribed last time

We're just going to use condoms.

You can take progesterone only pill, Depo shot, implant, IUD or condoms. I don't do well with hormones so looking at the copper coil (IUD) or back to condoms.
