Wherever state you're in, just get to a city as soon as possible. Racists in the city will ask if they can touch your hair and lock their car doors if they see you. They say your name is 'exotic' and compliment you on how articulate you are. They all have "black friends"(one guy from their office whose name they don't know) and are ABSOLUTELY not racist. They voted for Obama, after all! They're annoying, but you'll make it out alive. It's the suburbs and country where the insane ones are!

Yeah... what everyone else is saying. I live in Utah and salt lake city is great. There is lots of diversity and people are awesome. But go anywhere else in the state and it's hit or miss unfortunately. I feel like that's with lots of places though. Eventually hopefully people won't pay attention to that and it'll just be thought of as any other trait, one that doesn't define you, or exclude you. Someday... 🙁

I live in the Metro Detroit area and while yes, of course, there is racism, it seems for the most part to be a pretty open minded area. There are tons of interracial couples and the kids here are really ingrained into black culture. I have never seen anyone tolerate racism down here, that shit will get called out on real quick. Some of the cops are racist though, but tbh nobody is really a fan of law enforcement here except for some bitter old white people

Yeah it really depends on where you are in each state/region. I've lived in SoCal and Illinois and in both states there is discrimination based on location. For example, Chicago is pretty liberal as a whole, but then rural areas 2 hours outside of Chicago is filled with trump supporters. Similarly, in LA, nobody gives a shit about anyone so there isn't that much discrimination, but an hour outside of LA, you get Rich White Communities™ where they'll hate ya if you're "different". I'm not necessarily saying everywhere besides cities is terrible, I'm just saying that different locations/towns will hold different ideals haha
