pregnant and hot tub?

I've recently heard that you're not supposed to be in a hot tub when you're pregnant but I'm almost 8 1/2 months pregnant and before I even heard about it I was in there for hours. And it's not like it's super hot to where I'm sweating it's just warm. It's like taking a bath. Does anyone else have any input on this? Should I stop going in? It just really relaxes me and I work 3 jobs and it helps with my back pain.

You should absolutely stop getting in the hot tub. Please talk to your doctor about this and see what he/she says.

Experts recommend limiting your use of a hot tub or sauna during pregnancy to less than 10 minutes at a time, or forgoing them altogether, especially in the early weeks. Sitting in a hot tub or sauna can raise your body temperature to a level that can be dangerous for your developing baby.

According to the Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS), a body temperature of 101º F and above can raise concerns during pregnancy. Some studies have shown an increased risk of birth defects in babies of women who had an increased body temperature during the first trimester of pregnancy.

A hot bath, which is not uncomfortable or scalding, is a safer way to relax. In a bath much of your upper body will remain out of the water, making you less likely to overheat. Additionally, the water in a bath begins to cool off, as opposed to a hot tub, further reducing any risk of overheating.

I have a hot tub and get in all the time when I'm pregnant. I just make sure that the chemicals look good and that the temp is turned down.

Keep the temp under 100 and get out immediately if you feel lightheaded or overheated. Same goes for baths.

As long as it isn't over 100 it's fine. You can't let your body temp get up to 101. It becomes dangerous for the baby at that point. Whatever your temp is the womb is 1 to 2 degrees warmer

You can stay in for up to 15 minutes at a time unless your doctor says otherwise. Same with baths that are warmer than body temperature.

It's only a problem if it makes your skin red or if it's hot enough that you have to "get used to it" and ease in slowly
