doctor switch?

Has anyone had to switch doctors in the middle of their pregnancy? I'm supposed to be getting married which means my insurance will change and my doctor won't accept the insurance I'm going to have. I heard it's hard to switch in the middle so was curious as to if anyone else has done this.

I was considering switching a few weeks ago, but ended up staying.  It wasn't because doing so was difficult, just because of distance. It's apparently pretty easy paperwork wise, but you may have to call around to find out if ob's or midwives are excepting patients due around your due date or who will treat you if you have some special needs. You new care giver will probably have you sign a hippa form and have your previous file faxed to the new office. You won't even have to call your old office to "break up" with them.

My mom switched every few appointments. She just never found a doctor she liked. She ended up finding one she really respected. But yeah you definitley can. You just have to go over all the information again.

I had to switch due to moving, I switched at 28 weeks. Honestly dealing with insurance was the most frustrating part. If you do want to switch I would recommend looking at who your new insurance would cover, looking at reviews and then calling to see if they are accepting new patients with your due date.

If you want to stay with your current doctor for the duration of your pregnancy, there is generally a form that you can fill out for continuation of care. The new insurance carrier will likely cover the treatment if it's temporary. Give them a call.

I did.  I absolutely hated the place I was at but they took the insurance I had.  Hubby and I got married and I got put on his insurance and switched to a recommended ob at 20 weeks.  That was with my first and I'm still with him because he is amazing!
