WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Watching Tv and this situation comes on.a family is sitting in their room and the door bell rings. You have a new neighbor. At first sight you see a nice looking person, looks genuine and all however, after some short "I'm you new neighbor small talk" they tell u, "I'm required to notify you that I'm a sex offender".

What would you do or say? How would you feel? Would you feel your child is now in danger?  If it were a man how would you feel? If it were a woman how would you feel?

First I would find out why they were a sex offender. Like I'm not going to be mean to someone who had sex in the back seat of their car late at night when they thought they were alone and got busted for it. But if the person was a rapist or pedophile, I would go all out "hide your kids, hide your wife" and be very weary and never associate. I know, it's harsh, especially when there is a chance that we associate with sex offenders everyday and we just don't know because they haven't been caught.

I'm nosy, I would ask them for more information. I always assume there are people like this living around me anyway, it makes no difference to me. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I would think it's strange to come to someone's house and knock on the door like that, so I would assume they had an issue they needed to make me aware of the second they introduced themself. I would also ask them what they were convicted of, what happened. There's a huge difference between someone being added because when they were 19 they slept with their 16 year old girlfriend and the parents freaked out and if they were hiding an 8 year old chained in their basement for 6 years. It wouldn't matter to me if it was a man or a woman. And depending on the situation I would probably not be inviting them to any BBQs in the future.

I'd ask them why they're on the list since a lot of things get you put on the list, some of which aren't that horrible (like public indecency).
If it was something terrible (rape, sexual assault, etc.) then I'd be worried. If it was something like they got caught peeing on the side of a bar, eh I wouldn't care so much.

Well I'd ask why they are a sex offender, and take it from there 🤷‍♀️ it's good of them to inform their neighbours.

We had a two sex offenders in a neighborhood I used to live in. One was a sex offender because when he was younger, is girlfriend parents pressed charges for statutory rape *i believe*. She was 15 and he was 24 (😬).  BUT he ended up staying with that woman and pretty much saying eff you to the system.. they're in their 40s/50s now, super happy together. 
Then there's the child molester who had hurt multiple children.
Idk.. I suppose, what can you do? Move if you can? But what if you can't? I hate to take my child's play time away outside, but I think I wouldn't let my kid go ride her bike without my supervision and honestly I'd probably just move her outside time down the street.. idk.. I kind of HATE the thought. As a victim of sexual assaults, the thought of anyone harming my baby girl makes me feel like I'd end up in prison for the rest of my life.

I'd straight up ask them what they did and why.

I'd ask them how they got on the register and then depending on their answer I might sympathise (you can be on it for peeing in public) I might ask them how their recovery was going and if I could do anything to help it or I would ask them if their views towards women had changed and depending on their reponse I might either let them know I was available to help or threaten them

It depends on why. In some states, a guy will have to register if he's caught peeing outside.
