Do people really beleive this?

So I'm on Instagram and run across this comment made by someone's post. Do people really beleive Africans were traded for goods? Please tell me this isn't true.

Now for these history class comments. Again, African slavery was different than Chattel Slavery. If you were a slave in an African Nation you were usually a spoil of war or a hostage. If you had children during that time, like got pregnant and had kids, your child wasn't isolated to slavery. It wasn generaltional and you were actually treated humanely outside of possible trades, but you weren't separated like Chattel slavery did.

There are some instances when ppl were traded for guns, as the Europeans stole the tech from China, and then used it to make weapons and colonize and terrorize the rest of the world. But this narrative of "Africans did it too" is a more new/relative narrative to make it not seem so bad. Kind of like when Texas published text books saying that slaves were happy and paid. We all know that was bullshit. But in a few years you'll see ppl saying "didn't you learn that slaves were happy and paid in school?" Just research for yourself and be mindful of your sources

Yes, yes idiots do believe that. They will also compare slavery amongst African peoples to Chattel slavery which is different. They may be the same assholes who say that the Irish were also slaves in the US. They weren't, they were indentured servants. Yeah ppl are really that stupid

Maybe some Africans did participate in enslaving their neighbors to Europeans. But unless the slave volunteered, then yes they were abducted. That's is absolute ignorance at best to say no slave was abducted. Even freed slaves were often abducted and sold again after they had already escaped from slavery.

Yes there was a very active slave trade. African people were involved in the trading. The slaves were abducted- generally by tribes that made deals with the Europeans to protect their own people. It was not all down to the Europeans. They played a major role of course but they had help from Africans. At least that's what I was taught in world history classes.

I believe that is true I don't know the historical facts and timelines though. I really can't remember it. But I believe that that's being used as a defense. Like the common " I have black friends/family" reaction to being called racist. I believe even in the south, some mixed kids had "slaves". But that was also because the masters raped slaves so there's really no justification in any kind of slave ownership. Nor is it an excuse, or something to compare, the bottom line slavery is disgusting. Regardless of who started it or participated in it.
