How accurate are 16 week gender ultrasounds?

I will be 16+2 at my next appointment May 2nd and the doctor is going to try and see the gender. I planned my gender reveal dinner for May 7th based on the May 2nd results. Was that a dumb idea?? There's a lot going on this summer with everyone going on vacation and having birthday parties so I jumped on the first date that everyone would be able to make it.

I found out I was having a boy at 16 weeks exactly and confirmed at 21 week scan

At 16 weeks, pretty accurate. I wouldn't trust anything before 16 weeks though.

There are several factors that determine the reliability of gender ultrasound, including the skill of the ultrasound tech and the baby's cooperation.

With my first my doctor tried to peek early for me but my baby wouldn't open his legs. He was the same at the anatomy scan and the tech was about to tell me she was pretty sure he was a girl because of his refusal to show his gender and his heart rate but then he finally uncrossed his legs.

They are pretty accurate. I did mine at 15+5 and did the party the next day and it was correct.  If the baby cooperates they shouldn't have a problem seeing the gender.
