too much sleep comments?

Does anyone else get comments that their babies sleep too much? I just let my daughter sleep / eat on her cues (ebf), not really concerned on getting a schedule - she is 5 weeks. My in-laws have been staying with us for last week and my MIL constant comments on how much she sleeps. Like no less than 5-10 comments a day. Anyone else have this problem? It's really starting to bug me like she inferring something could be wrong. Does anyone force their babies to stay awake? I literally can't force my daughter to alert and active  when she wants to sleep.

My experience as first time mum has led me to believe women forget what newborn babies are like, even the ones who have had children. In my daughters first weeks of life I had so many females ask me "does she sleep though the night yet" and " have you got her into a schedule yet". Um hello... she's two weeks old 🙄

Yes! Every time my in laws come over and she is asleep they want to wake her up so they can hold her. My daughter is not a good sleeper to begin with and I have worked very hard to get her napping well during the day which helps her not be overtired, which helps her sleep better at night. Its very frustrating and I hate when they tell me the reason she doesn't sleep through the night is because I let her sleep to much during the day. It's actually the opposite of what most people would think, newborns need their sleep, keeping them up during the day does not help them sleep at night!

On a slightly more serious note: as long as your baby wakes up long enough to feed properly there is no issue. Tell then politely that you appreciate the concern but there is no need for further comments on the subject.

Young babies are supposed to sleep 20 hours a day! You cant force them to stay awake thats unfair lol she needs to but out your doing the right thing letting baby sleep and eat when they need to !!! Xxx

I haven't had any comments yet really- but I'm armed with the fact that my LO has gained a whole pound over birthweight and he's going to be 2 weeks on Friday. So, like, yeah he sleeps a lot. But man- he's got his feedings down 👊🏻✌🏻 lol

Omg I made a post about this a couple days ago !! The last time my MIL was over I kinda snapped on her because this is the third time she has mad a comment about how much my son sleeps, she was shaking her head and said this isn't good he sleeps too much. I'm like first of all he is only 4 weeks old second he is growing ! He is supposed to sleep! It just irritates me so bad and she finally got the vibe lol

As long as baby is gaining wait I would let her sleep! My little one is starting to fight sleep and stay awake for 2 hrs at a time a couple times a day and it's difficult.

Well mine is doing the opposite, she stayed awake for 10 hours straight. From 3am to 1pm😩😩. She'll be 7 weeks tommorow

My in-laws comment on it all the time!!!!! So annoying. Every time I bring my little guy anywhere they're always like "I wanna see his eyes, let's wake him up" and then proceed to poke my child. And then they get mad at me when I take him from them. Like don't poke him. Let him sleep!!

Lmao newborns sleep like cats... Ie a LOT. They're supposed to and it's healthy and normal.
