Period changes

I started what I thought was my period on Sunday real heavy that day and some of Monday... Pain was so bad I thought I was going to die... Just spotting on Tuesday Wednesday but horrible pain... Thursday no pain just spotting.. Today so much blood I am lost pain isn't and better.. 4 the last 5 years my period last for 4 days.... I don't know what is going on... Have anybody experiences this before... I don't want to go to the emergency room if its just a painful period I would feel embarrassed because this is a grown women thing so I should be able to pain but I can't no meds works no heat pad nothing seems to make the pain decrease...
