Eating too much!?

My three week old boy eats and eats and eats!!!! He eats 5-6 oz every 1.5-2.5 hours. Is this normal for a baby his age? He only weighs 8lbs 8oz. I just feel like he's always eating!

I work on a pediatric observation unit and from what I know new babies should be eating 2-3oz every 2-3 hours. Once they're over eight weeks they eat 4-5 oz every 4-6 hours or so. (Essentially 24 oz in 24 hours) but I'd talk with the doc at the next check up to make sure baby doesn't eat too much and end up overweight.

I recently took care of a 5 month old baby who weighed 28 lbs! I have a two year old who only weighs 26lbs so it's shocking to see that. Anyway the baby had massive respiratory issues because of his size.

My daughter ate every 1.5 when she was little like that...wore my poor boobs out! It evened out after growth spurt though

He's three weeks. They feed often and sleep a lot. Babies grow fast! You'll notice when you get a better feel for him as you two bond and learn each other when he's growing through a growth spurt. He's 3 weeks so he may be going through one now or starting one. He may also just have a very big appetite. If your breast feeding just make sure you take care of your boobs as well because feeding more often will cause some discomfort and stuff.
