When does baby hair fall out if it actually does?

My son is 5 weeks and was  born with a head full of dark hair. Everyone keeps telling me his hair is going to fall out and new hair is going to grow in and probably a different color. Is this true? Did it happen to you? If so when?

They lose it basically from the time they're born until they turn 6 months, when it usually starts to come back in. Some babies do, some don't! My daughter was born with a head full of dark brown hair, and most of it fell out and it came back dirty blonde. She rocked the old man do for a few months though from laying on her back and rolling her head back and forth.

My daughter had a ton of hair. No one other than me could tell some fell out. I think she was like 4 months old maybe.

My MIL keeps saying that too, but I don't think it usually all falls out at once. I think by the time they are one they have a whole new set of hair though.

My daughter was born with a full head of black hair. She lost almost all her hair by 3 months, but they all grew back within 3 months. He hair now is light brown almost blonde and pretty long.

Mine lost it around 3 months and now (6months) his head looks fuller than before.

If my son's hair fell out it wasn't noticeable. He has more hair now than when he was born but it's much lighter, so I'm guessing as his new hair started growing his old hair must have fallen out very gradually. At the back he still has some dark hair so I guess that will probably go away too eventually (he's 5 months old).

It can grow back a different color but may not and it may not ALL fall out. A lot of babies just get some patchiness. I was reading the other day that after 4 months is when it starts growing back so at that point, if any has fallen out, it should be done doing so and start filling back in.

I know my son's hair was thicker on top when he was born, but when we got home from the hospital it was down to peach fuzz on top and thicker in the back and at 8 weeks it's just now starting to even out.

Both my kids were born with a head full of hair and neither of them lost any of it. When my daughter turned a year old, we went in to get her hair cut since it had gotten pretty long.
