What's a good gift for a 1 year old?

This might be a silly question but this is my first time being an aunt so I have no clue what to get my nephew. Should you buy something for the child or buy something that will help the parents out?

I always buy an outfit in the next size up and a small educational toy. Helps the parents and the little one gets a toy.

I  ALWAYS buy toys for my nephews. Think about when you were a kid.  Who wanted to open clothes all the time? Every kid looks forward to toys.  😉

Clothes are always appreciated, shoes too. Toys are nice, but that's always everyone's go to, so maybe books, or something educational? The best gift my son got in his first birthday was a walker. He was already walking, but it helped build his confidence and strengthen his legs so he didn't tumble so often.

My daughter turns one soon. I would love for someone to ask me personally what to get. Cause kids that age don't quite understand. I put no toys on her invitations because she has so many and I have no more room. I would ask them what they would like. Clothes or books or diapers, etc?
