Has Anybody got that Genetic Testing Done?

Question

I went to see my OB todya for the first time.. and she was asking me about getting a Genetic Testing done.. to test for down syndrome and other disabilities.. people keep telling me not too, others tell me I should.. what's your opinion on it? Did you get it done? If yes, why? If no,why not?

I got the testing. Ultra sound and they drew my blood. No harm done and my insurance covers.

Had it done because I wanted the extra ultrasound.... Ended up being positive carrier for Gaucher's disease (never heard of it before this) and of all things, my husband is positive carrier as well! It was devastating news, but after speaking to a genetic counselor and seeing the perfect ultrasound, my husband and I agree that it was probably meant to be that we know of the 25% chance now so we can prepare for future. Will not be doing an amniocentesis but will just have the baby tested once she is born .... At least now we know what symptoms, etc to look for and get immediate treatment for our little girl if need be. After I got the results initially, I was so mad at myself for doing the testing, because it caused so much stress, but now I'm actually thankful we did it.

I had it done. I had no reason to get it done but I did it anyway. My doctor does a seperate "non invasive prenatal test" aside from the actual screening. The reason he does this is because the screenings show a lot of false positives. Anyways, so I went for the ultrasound part of my screening and although the ultrasound showed o.k., they told me my blood came back positive for Down's syndrome. 1:74 which is a very high positive!!! I went back to my doctor and he showed me the non invasive prenatal test (N.I.P.T) showed everything came back negative and perfect. It was a false positive. But can you for a second imagine how I felt when the other doctor told me we were positive for Down's syndrome???!!! I wish I never had it done.

I did the genetic screen and everything was fine. Opted out of the ultrasound though. I was only going to do it if my blood work came back with an alert. I wouldn't have done the amnio though if it had come to that.  That test scares me lol.

It has it risk. Some people do a lot don't . Personal I wouldn't do it ur putting ur child and u at risk

I had the blood work and ultrasound screenings done. It doesn't hurt to find out to be safe and who doesn't want an extra glimpse if their little one?

I had it done with my first and I'll do it this time around. It doesn't matter if the baby has it or doesn't because I'll keep it either way for sure but it's good to know if I need to plan ahead for anything :)

You are not putting anyone at risk. However, the rate at which it gets false positives are high. I'm electing not to do it because I don't have any concerning genetic background.

I had it done. It only tests for 3 abnormalities. I got it done so there were no surprises in my pregnancy. Drs also suggest it because let's say your baby has Down's syndrome, there could be bigger problem like with the heart that they would need to look for.
