That some people are just meant to be "bums" somebody said to me the other day "there's a bum in every family" basically stating there's always someone who just doesn't want to do anything with life, No matter how much you try to help them...Do you believe that there's a balance in the world? People who work hard and people who just want to do nothing with life?  ( For example Like good and evil )

When the person said this I was like 😳 ok.

I personally believe everyone can live life to their fullest potential with the right motivation and inspiration!

What are your thoughts?

I don't know anyone who doesn't want to work or try, many people who appear that way have barriers you might not understand or be able to see.

You're being very idealistic if you think it's just a matter of motivation and inspiration. It's not nearly that simple for some people.

Anyone I've met who has no drive to do anything often has something behind it, like mental illness. And as someone with multiple mental illness, it can absolutely destroying someone's motivation to do anything. So I try not to see it in a negative light and look at the possibilities of a deeper issue.

It's a spectrum... lol! No, but seriously. There's a number of reasons as to why people bum. It may be due to unforeseen circumstances, underlying health issues, and/or physical injuries, but then again... maybe they're just lazy. Or, they may lack the skills needed in order to reach their full potential. Maybe even lack of education and training, and opportunity. There's so many reasons why one might resort to being a bum.

My one brother in law is 30 years old, lives at home with my inlaws, never had a job a day in his life, doesn't have a drivers license, doesn't cook any of his own meals or wash his own laundry. And has no intentions on adulting anytime soon no matter what we try to do to motivate him. I think some people are just bums. Yes.

i feel like it may be a choice. people fall off the path and just rebel. i've met families where everyone is on the right path to succeeding, they just do it in their own way. and i've also met families where there's usually is one person who would be in the category of "bum". sometimes even motivation doesn't get them to succeed. for example, in both me and my boyfriend's family, we both have a sibling that would be included in the "bum" category. my brother has the chance to change his life, but he chooses to lay on the couch every single day all day. my bf's sister has a really good life, but she chose to rebel and break the rules.

I think that some people are very motivated to not work for others but they work VERY hard at getting others to do work for them! The "bums" I know put a ton of effort into finding all kinds of reasons why they can't or shouldn't work or put tons of effort into avoiding work/adulting. It's a matter of perspective.

I tell people up front that I am lazy. They're shocked because I am very knowledge about computer systems and tech. Then I explain that I put all of my effort into learning how to operate automated systems and computers so that I don't have to do the work later! 😂

I don't really want to go to work, or clean my house, or cook dinner, or do my laundry, but guess what? I do because it's called being a grown up. 
People who don't do those things most likely have a reason other than they don't "feel like it" like a mental/physical disorder.
