NEW IUD

So I just got an IUD yesterday, the skyla. And besides from cramping everything seems to be okay I was jut curious. How long should you wait to have sex? I know my doc said 48 hours, but when does it become active and start working. Also if you use it, do you still use condoms/ "pull out method" or let the guy ejaculate inside of you? I have never done it mostly because I'm been on the pill before this and it made me nervous with how often I'd forget to take my pill.
