Insulin every night...
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at the end of April. I was told we would try to control it with diet first & worst case scenario would be to take insulin to keep my sugar levels down. I was totally against taking insulin, I mean ... who wants to give themselves daily shots on top of all the aches & pains pregnancy brings?
So, I worked my ASS off. I stayed on course with my diet, never caving into cravings & ended up losing 5 lbs (I've only gained 13lbs & I'm 31 weeks). I was so happy! I thought I was doing so well. Wrong!
Found out today that I do, in fact, need a nightly dose of insulin ( 5 units for those who are familiar) to control my sugar levels. I cried in my nutritionist's office. I feel like a failure & call me a control freak, but I was/am extremely upset that I can't fix this myself.
I'm trying to stay positive & the stubborn side of me is determined to work through this & still be uncontrollably happy about being pregnant. I just keep getting blow after blow whereas this diagnosis is concerned.
Don't take your easy breezy pregnancy for granted ladies. It's a blessing!
