pacifiers or no?

What do you guys think about pacifiers? I've heard my whole life that they cause dental problems but also that they help a lot for teething

I would much rather break a paci  habit than a thumb sucking habit lol at least the paci can be taken away. As long as it's taken away and not used excessively once the baby has teeth it's fine

I have no issue using them. Don't feel bad about it. If your baby needs a little extra help with the self soothing just use one. No idea why people have to be judgemental about this too.

My son used his pacifier from newborn until sometime between 6 or 9 months. We had no problems whatsoever. We used the avent soothie brand. He stopped using the pacifiers completely on his own, and his teeth came in perfectly fine. I plan on using the same brand of pacifier when this baby comes, as long as it's what the baby wants.

My first used one for the first 5 weeks and she would spit it out. I don't think she really cared for it. Never used one with my second and don't plan on using one with this one.

We finally got my son weaned off of his when he was 2. He doesn't seem to have any issues with his teeth. I'd be more concerned about a thumb sucker and teeth issues since that habit lasts much longer typically. (I sucked on my middle two fingers until I was about 6 I believe) 
Once baby is here, you'll just want to use anything that willl help calm your baby, trust me!

My little Maya used a pacie for 2 years and she doesn't have any issues with her teeth.

My first baby had one and we took it from him once his teeth started coming in , I will be giving this baby a pacifier as long as he takes it but it is great to use for comforting them .

Myfirst took one. My second did not. I will try again with this baby. It's nice for them to have a comfort item.

My first son never had one. We never bought or got any. He was perfectly fine without it. 
My second.... he had to be attached to my breast to calm down it seemed. After 2 weeks of trying to get him to self soothe to no avail, and us realizing of he did not have me in his mouth, he was screaming and unhappy, we went for a pacifier. That seemd to help him a lot. We did take it away at 6 months though, by then he was doing a lot better, and we saw no further need for it.
 This time around, we plan to do as we normally do, no pacifier, unless we can not get baby to self soothe, and see no other option. We don't get them in advance, and don't offer them until we see a need.
 To each their own.
