Uterine Fibroids

Recently diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Because I am many years from menopause the doctor recommends a partial hysterectomy (uterus and Fallopian tubes). I have many symptoms (back ache, bulging belly, clots, heavy bleeding through my clothes, painful sex). Has anyone had this procedure? Are there alternatives? I got the same recommendation from 2 different gynecologists. Thanks.
