disappointing first appointment

I had my first appointment a couple of days ago. According my to LMP I was 8 weeks 5 days. Ultrasound was done transvaginal. The tech said the baby only measured at 6 weeks and did not pick up a heart beat. I was devastated hearing this news automatically thinking the worst. Doctor told me I was either earlier than originally predicted or was having a miscarriage. Had my blood drawn and was told to come back in a week to draw blood again to see if my levels increase and to have another ultrasound. Anybody else have a similar experience?
