Helping 20 month old talk?

Okay so does anyone know how I can help/teach my 20 month old to use words rather than grunts, stomps,& hand signals? 
She started out okay with a few small words & head nods but now she doesn't do it anymore. I want to help her but I don't really know how.

You should see a speech therapist and see what they say. My step-daughter was the same way and at now 5 she has a very hard time communicating and now has behavioral issues because of it and has a hard time making friends.

Read her books and sing her songs daily.

Rent/buy a sign language book and teach your LO to sign as you pronounce the words... this helps a ton! This is exactly what a speech therapist will do. So for example "more" you do it by forming a fist but with your fingers all together and tapping back and forth both right and left fingers... and at the same time you will pronounce "more" 3 times... after a few days your LO will start to use the signs and then after weeks/months they'll start pronouncing it... try to avoid "baby talk"... this usually slows down their language learning... according to the many speech therapists I have worked with

Does he know any animal sounds? I would def have him evaluated by a speech therapist. The earlier the intervention the better.

By the time they reach 18 months they should be able to say 15 words, my son only says 5 and we were referred to a speech therapist since he is "behind" on his speech. He understand what we tell him and he points and nods and asks for things but he just doesn't want to talk but every baby/toddler is different! My friends daughter started walking and saying words at 9 months!! But my point is you could try sign language so it's easier to understand, because I mean you can't reach for his toung to try and make him talk but you can mess with his hands and show him. Like my son knows what more is and also cup/drink and food he might not do the signs but he will si me do them and he will nod yes or no. POINT IS lol they will talk at their time when they ready to talk we can't force them so don't worry just keep practicing 😊😊😊 I feel like I've annoyed my son lol every day I should like a broken CD player trying sounds out words and trying to get him to say the words. Lol but something else my therapist did tell me was that some times as parents we give the children things before they even ask for them and it's true I was guilty lol but now I understand but don't worry I wouldn't really worry until he's reached 3 also my nephew doesn't want to talk he's  20 months too, he'll say some words but he's stuck between learning English or Spanish first so that's why it's taking him long. But yeah don't worry just look into speech therapist or mention it to your pediatric and if they suggest speech therapist then go for it 😊😊😊😊😊
