active nuva ring and period?!?

I started nuva ring three months ago. Im continuously  using it. So I never leave one out. (This was prescribed usage) but now I'm getting a period WHILE it's in. Is this ok??

I had an iud and recently changed to the nuva ring. The doctor told me to leave it in for 4weeks take it out throw it away and have a period. Then put in a new one after my period. 
There wasn't a big gap in between birth controls. I started my period today after starting nuva ring yesterday. So I'm in the same boat.
