Does being married determine whether your relationship will stay up or come crashing down?

I don't get why women expect things to be at an all time high through out their marriage...few months in they call it boring...Why allow a piece of paper to change the aspects of your relationship?? Ive never been married and would like some insight on some marriages...every woman I know has gotten a divorce...I want that forever marriage...Im just wondering...What are your thoughts on marriage? And if you've been married for 10+ years kuddos and congrats!

Marriage doesn't change anything, whatever issues you have in your relationship will still be there after marriage.

The paper doesn't change the relationship, that is why you try to find someone who you can be with regardless of status in the relationship. You need to find someone on the same journey, who is sexually and fiscally compatible, and has the same level of respect, commitment, and boundaries you do.

For many people,including myself, marriage is not a piece of paper. Paper is government issued proof of the legality of filing joint taxes. I am also a Christian which means that marriage is a covenant between myself, my husband, and God. What God has joined together let man not separate. The goal of marriage is not to "be happy" which is what everyone seems to think marriage is. The goal is to help each other towards Heaven, to be of one mind as well as one flesh. For any couple thinking about marriage, religious or not, there is obviously love. But love is like a plant; it's beautiful and alive but if you don't water it and give it sunlight and keep it warm when it's cold and tend to it daily, it will eventually stop growing and die. Marriage is like being given a sapling that you both must share. If you care for it properly it will grow and grow and grow until it's an old tree in your backyard that your grandchildren play under and climb. It's hard work, it's choosing the other person every day, it's making sacrifices for the other person, it's selflessness, it's waking up every morning looking at your partner for life knowing you have each other's backs in everything you do.

The main issue I see is that some people once married think that the piece of paper means ownership. So therefore the relationship changes because of that. But not all marriages are like that.

I know so many happy married people. I know some that are divorced and others that are unhappy. But I can say the same for unmarried couples that don't plan on getting married. Marriage doesn't always end badly. In my experience it's amazing.

I've been told by many couples to marry your best friend. Its seems to work for them. The reasons for this are that even when you fight with your best friend you always work to make up afterwards. You don't just abandon your relationship with them. Another reason is that you tend to know all the important stuff about your best friend, such as how they want to raise kids and how many they want if any or how good they are with money and what their expectations are from a marriage/relationship, etc. Many people don't know these things or know them and even though they don't agree will just ignore it. Your best friend is also someone you get along with really well, tell everything to, can count on and lean on, etc.

Marriage doesn't always end in divorce. Not getting married doesn't always end up with you being together forever either. But I think marriage is the ultimate commitment and a lot more than a piece of paper. I personally just don't get the point of saying I don't believe in marriage because it always ends in divorce yet the same person says they can commit to one person for the rest of their lives.

Definitely a piece of paper shouldn't change anything. I've been with my husband for 11 years. In November it will be a total of 3 years married. We've never once let the "honeymoon" phase be over. And if I'm being quite honest, we never felt that marriage changed our relationship in the first place. We already felt married and committed to one another. The marriage license was a legal and more binding solidification of our commitment. The morning after our wedding, I remember him saying he didn't feel any different, and neither did I.

But a couple shouldn't stop dating or flirting with their SO regardless if their married or just dating long term.

Nope, I have been with my bf for 8 years, we have 2 babies together, cars and we are planning on moving to a new house soon. We both feel marriage is just not for us!!
