Which is it?

I've started using the term POC, and a girl looked at me and said "I actually find that term very derrogatory. IM BLACK JUST SAY BLACK!"

So I was just wondering, what do you guys prefer using or prefer being called?

When talking about a large group? POC, unless you know their racial/ethnic background(s).
When talking about me specifically? POC, unless you actually know my racial/ethnic breakdown because randomly guessing can lead you down a rude path.

That depends on the person. Some prefer black, while others may prefer POC or AA. But, if you are unsure politely ask what is your ethnicity? Or just say POC, so no one takes your head off.

I’m Black. The POC is really annoying to me because its grouping us all together when we don’t have the same experiences. When talking about me and my experiences, we not talking about being a POC, we talking about being BLACK.

I'm white in America so probably the wrong person to ask... but I feel like, if you're talking to a black person in most cases, you just say black, unless you know they don't like that.  If you say African American, it sounds like you're some old racist who's trying way too hard to not seem racist.

But when it's a politician or something, it seems weird, like disrespectful, when they say "black people", it's as if there's something else implied there.  African American seems more polite in formal situations like that, when you're talking about a people group politically.

Please tell me your thoughts on this.  I've got a couple of black friends, but we never talk about race, (just anime lol), so I don't know what they think about this.  I'm just guessing, based off of how I think I would feel if it were me.

That term is so annoying to me. No one is a color & why catorogize someone? Just call them their race if you really have to call them out by color.
