Do you care what type of job your child has?

Question

Do you expect your children to go to university or college? Would you be disappointed if they just worked at a fast food place? My friend recently said she'd be embarrassed if her child  had a low income job.

I don't care. All I care about is that they are happy. My oldest constantly tells me he wants to be a janitor. I tell him to go for it if he thinks that'll make him happy.

My youngest, on the other hand, wants to grow up to be a pretty princess and marry a handsome prince. I encourage him to follow his dreams as well.

All I really want is two (or three if I ever get there this time around) generous, loving, respectful, fulfilled, content, happy children. How they achieve that is up to them. And I will support them no matter what path they take.

This is such a great question. No, I will not be disappointed in my child if they have a low income job. The truth is, we don't need most of the stuff society says we need. My kid (and any other person!) can live off of less than what society deems ideal. 
I honestly think people who have to stretch their money and really be intentional about what they buy have the advantage over those who have things handed to them. I want my kids to struggle, I want then to feel stretched to the limit.
Ultimately though, I want my kids to be happy, I want then to feel important and satisfied and challenged.

I expect and want more for my kids then some minimum paying job. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's the truth. I want them to get a good education and good career. Obviously when all is said and done health and happiness is the most important, however I'd be lying if I said I didn't want more. My parents moved to this country with nothing, all so I could have a better education and life than they did. I wasn't about to let them down, by not taking the opportunities that were given to me.

I want my children to aspire to greatness. My oldest wants to be an engineer (of a train, he's 10) and my youngest wants to be an obgyn (or in his words, a doctor that helps get baby's out, he's 7). I do expect them to get some type of higher education, only because I know how hard it is NOW to get a decent job without some kind of degree. Will I be upset if they don't? No. As long as they are happy in what they choose to do, then I'll be happy.

i work at taco bell and have 30-35 hours a week. i'm getting amazing paychecks, better than i have anywhere else. 
i do go to scho as well though. 
the type of job does not matter. besides, fast food is a good place to start, it's fast paced and you deal with a lot of different people.

There is so much more to a child then their job. I will encourage college and pay for it. I dont want my children to struggle with student loans. But if they decided that what they really want was to be in a fast food place. That's their choice not mine. Its their life so its their choice. They can do what they want.

I wouldn't exactly say that I would expect them to go to college/ get a high paying job. It is their life after all, I can't pick and choose what choices they make. However, I would like them to do better and go further than I did. I will encourage them to do just that.

I will encourage them to go to college or do something else academic after high school (education should be life-long), but even if they still work as a cashier, if they are happy, that is just fine.

I would be disappointed if my child had no desire to do something they were truly interested in and were satisfied staying in a low income dead end job.   Does anyone like McDonald's after working there 5-10 years?
