Heartbeat and fat!?

Question

I'm a heavy woman and I'm going to hear my baby's heartbeat at 11 weeks and 3 days! My doctor and the clinic I go to only do it this late and not anytime before! I'm worried because I'm heavy it'll be hard to hear the heartbeat and they don't do ultrasounds until 20 weeks so I don't believe I'll get one if he can't find it which is worrisome. Should they still be able to hear it despite my being fat?

If they can't they may try a transvaginal ultrasound to hear it.

I'm also a bigger girl and they were unable to hear my babies. But they gave me a sonogram to make sure everything was alright

If it helps I am 5'10, weigh 300lbs and am a size 18/20. We heard the heartbeat loud and clear at 10wks 2 days :)

I got transvaginal ultrasounds up until I was 13 weeks! So maybe they'll do it that way and if so you'll def hear the heart beat 😊

I don't even think it really has too much to do with being heavier. I've got a lil pooch and at 15 weeks my OB couldn't hear the heartbeat on the doppler and said it was normal. I get US every visit though and hear the hb that way

Most providers don't even check for hb via Doppler until 13 wks minimum. Being heavy will affect their ability to locate and hear baby's hb. Good luck but be prepared to have to wait until 20 wks luv...i wish you luck💖

I'm a bigger girl too and my doctor has never had a problem finding my baby's heartbeat- starting with my first appointment at 10 weeks to now-currently 26 weeks. I think everyone is different but it might not be an issue. I even bought a home doppler and I can always find the baby's heartbeat right away.

Im also a heavy gurl an we heard the heartbeat at 7w the baby measured a few days behind but the heartbeat was strong stay positive every doctor is different

They'll lay you back and listen like that.

At 15 weeks they couldn't find my baby's heartbeat because of an anterior placenta (we didn't know that was why though), and so they did an ultrasound. Odds are if they can't find it they'll order an ultrasound just to check.
