what should I do about my apartment

I've been at my apartment for 10 months . It has mold, bugs , mice and once even a squirrel came in . We can't plug lamps in our room because there's something wrong with the wiring in the walls . We call them with all these problems and they either try to flip it on us and say we caused it or still won't fix it . Our lease is up in august but we literally can't live here anymore it's not healthy nor safe . We went to the united tenants association and they say people always complain about that apartment complex . What should we do ?

IDk about where you Live, but here if you put it in writing all the issues, the landlord has 14 days to get to fixed, if not, we can break our lease. Maybe have a housing inspector come out and look that way it's also legally documented. If your place isn't legally livable you should be able to break your lease too

Look at your local ordinances, none of that is legal in most Illinois, even if it is the fault of the tenant. 
   
In some places it is grounds for you to break contract (the lease) under breach of contract. You would also sue the landlord for any damages caused by these living conditions.
   
You need to make sure everything is well documented. I would put a list together with the issues (and dates you originally reported them) send it to the landlord in a way that can be tracked (email and they way they told you on the lease to mail things to them, get postal tracking if you have to), and tell them they have (lease/ordinance specified) number of days to fix it or you are leaving and considering it a breach of contract on their end. 
  
This is all contingent on your ordinance and local laws but documentation is key in most places.

The apartment sounds like it's not in a livable condition, therefore breaking the lease on their terms. Legally the owners have to have the apartment up to standards and if it's not they have a specific amount of time to fix it. Regardless of who's 'at fault'.  This is all off​ memory from having issues years ago. You can try a free legal consult. Or you can look up your state tenancy laws, write a certified letter for maintenance work to get electrical safe and up to code, and mold and bugs taken care of, the law should mention how long they have to begin fixing problems. Mention how long they have and then inform them if it's not taken care of you will seek legal action or the lease will be terminated. Each state law is different, but it should be similar.

Call the housing authority and take pics. Also call the health board... they will srnd someone out to inspect  the apt and you can use that report if the Landlord takes you to court.....also, move. Dont worry about breaking the lease.

Keep a record of all the times you've reported each problem you've come across with the apartment. Upon move in, they should have also provided you with a check list. That way they know what problems were pre-existent. If they didn't provide you with that checklist, they are in violation of the landlord tenant act and laws. In that case, they would 100% have to provide you with all of your security deposit and all refundable deposits you've made. They are not allowed to withhold that money from you. 
According the law as well, if the unit is unsafe to live in and unhealthy, and if they don't correct the problems, you are under no obligation to keep up with the terms of your lease. Give them written notice of the problems. They have 5 days to fix any health hazards or you're allowed to break your lease and move out without consequence. It's called "constructive eviction". It's not an eviction against you as the tenant, but against them. 
If they fight you, tell them the law and that you have no problem reporting them to the department of housing for non-compliance with the laws.
I'm a newly licensed real estate agent, so I just learned all this information.

Take pics and make some calls. The owners can't get away with that. That's a fire risk, and health risk. I'd move out asap
