stinging pain during sex

Hey guys! So about 2 months ago I had a surgery to remove an ovarian cyst. My doctor told me I couldn't have sex for 6 weeks so I didn't, but ever since I started again it has sort of felt like I'm a virgin all over again. It's a little painful/uncomfortable and lately afterwards I've felt some stinging. Is this normal after going a while without sex? I don't think this is related to the surgery...
