need opinions, please read!

So my fiancé wants to get married at the court house then have a wedding in a year or so... I'm down with it sort of but not really. So here's what I need opinions on, what do you think about that? I have nothing to do with my mother so she's made it hard on me all my life, especially with health insurance and all that. I still have it for a little while but not much sooner. He gets insurance from his jobs and it's real good. That's why he wants to get married now so I won't have to pay a lot for my insurance. His covers everything and I know it'll help us out in the long run. But is it a good idea? Does anyone get married then have a wedding? I just don't want to be judged for it by my friends and family.
