Puppy?

Quick question. Im new to the whole shelter thing. All of my pets were given yo me freely. Do u have to pay to adopt a dog/puppy from the shelter? I really want another 1 but i dont know the adoption process. Thanks in advance.

We paid 260 for our rescue pup. It included neutering and first round of shots.

Usually, yes. Around me it's about $100-$250, with fairly frequent "sales" (if they get overcrowded or if someone sponsors the adoptions). The fees cover veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter, food, other animal's care, etc. Puppies are usually more expensive since everyone wants one. Consider adopting an adult dog, as they're much less likely to find a home!

I'm military so the shelter in Tampa fl gave me mine for free.  And I adopted from Humaine society I paid 120 I think.

Yes usually there is an adoption fee, that usually covers the puppy's first set of shots, the spaying/neutering, and micro chipping. Depending where you go, it's generally right somewhere around $100. You can go into your local shelter and they are usually all very happy to give you more information and let you meet the dogs and puppies. I've gotten all my dogs through a shelter and they are fantastic ☺️

Yes. The fees for adopting cover the costs of boarding and vet and food etc. While the dog was in their care. The price will depend on where you live - in my area the ospca charges $300 i think for a dog.  Puppies may be more expensive. There are also other rescue groups around too. They also need to charge fees because they spend so much rescuing dogs. Can i ask what general area you live in?

Most shelters do charge an adoption fee. 
They generally also go through an adoption process by getting references and such, they don't just let you pay & take a furr ball.

My mom runs a rescue. And our adoption donation is $300. If the dog is older than 5 then it goes down to $250 and 8+ is $150-$200, if it's a special needs it's between $200-$250. We call it a donation cause we are a non profit and it all goes back into the dogs. We give you dog food, you'll get all the vet records from their previous homes and from us, they are update on all shots, microchipped to us, spayed/neuter.
