8 weeks pregnant but no baby? help

So after ttc for about a year we finally got the big positive! I went to my first prenatal visit yesterday. According to my lmp im suppose to be 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant. The doctor sent me to do an ultrasound but they were able to see the sac/yolk but no baby or baby heart beat in it. The ultrasound tech recommended me to come back in 2 weeks and "we should be able to see something in there, you are not 8 weeks, you are less than that" but did not specificed w me anything else. The doctor sent me to do blood work to count the hormone levels and by monday we will know the results. To see if i am early and maybe i ovulated late, or if i misscarriage. 

Has any body gone thru this?
