Do you get gestational diabetes?

So I'm super bummed that I have gestational diabetes. To make things worse I crave so much sugar and I have a fear of blood (hemophobia ) I have my first class tomorrow and have to pick up my meter. Anyone else have it and how do you feel about it?

I do. And it's been super hard. I'm not going to lie. But, once you start testing and figure out what you can and cannot eat, it gets easier. I stick to the same foods. I had to be put on insulin.

Lunch I can handle a salad and sometimes a sandwich and strawberries.

I can still eat frozen yogurt bars (LOVE Yasso) and certain ice cream bars (Skinny Cow and JC Pie Pops) as long as I eat them later in the day. Natures Valley protein bars have been my best friend, because I can't tolerate a lot at breakfast right now...and they have peanut butter chocolate ones that taste just like candy bars to me! So try not to freak out about the sugar cravings, because there are ways to work around it. You just have to figure out what and when your body can tolerate it. :)

I'm in the home stretch (being induced on Sunday!) and my baby is estimated to be 7lbs.

Just remember you're doing this for your baby!! It's for his or her health and safety. It's difficult, but you can do it!

No matter how much you crave sugar, do not eat it. Your pancreas isn't able to deal with it...it is very important to keep it well controlled. You are at a much higher risk of developing type 2 after baby is born....up to 60% higher risk....within 5-10 years of delivery.

Hi, both my kids are now 13 & 11 and I had gestational diabetes with both. Now, I have t2 diabetes diagnosed 9 yrs ago. Have been on insulin shots since September last year, both slow acting and rapid acting.
