Do you think it's wrong to discipline 16-18 year olds for having sex?

So, 2 years ago I got caught having sex with my boyfriend that I still have today, and I couldn't go out or do anything and my mom wouldn't let me and him go with her to a wedding even though before all that happened, we could go. And I remember just being so mad because summer had just started. But now that I'm 18 and I'm in college, I understand now why I was in trouble. But if I ever have kids, I think my way of discipline will be different than my parents. I want to know everyone's opionions, and don't be scared to be truthful!

Teenagers will find ways to do it no matter how against and what the parents say. If they want to do it, they will regardless. If I ever have kids, I will never "discipline" them for doing something so natural that everyone does at some point in their life. I'd rather them having safe sex and do it in my house not just yell and make them feel like they can't talk to me about these kind of stuff.

I think you have to do it in a way to make the kid in that situation understand why the parent thinks they aren't ready for sex. I want to have a relationship with my kids where they can come to me and be open with that kind of stuff without being afraid of the punishment or me reacting badly. I know kids are gonna hide certain things from their parents but if I find out I would have to think about the punishment and if they're actually gonna learn from it rather than just impulsively ground them

I got caught but not having sex, we were about to start, and honestly the way my parents handled the situation was stupid and till today I won't forget it. I feel like if I had kids yes I would be angry as fuck but I would rather just talk to them and punish them a little so that I they don't do it again,but I think that's because I know how it feels like to be over punished so again any parent that hasn't ever experienced unfairness will act the way they feel is right cause they don't know how it feels like. So yeaaaaaa i don't know honest.

I won't punish my kids. I won't be happy, but what's the point in grounding them or punishing them? They're just going to do it again, just be sneaky about it. Nothing is going to stop them really. I'll just do everything I can to be sure they're protected.

Punishing kids like that just forces them to lie and hide, which will likely result in MORE risky behaviour, not less.  By being open and honest in communication with your kids, they'll be able to come to you for advice and therefore likely make better decisions.

i would say under 18 that it's not wrong to "discipline" them about it. but once they're 18 they're an adult & are beyond my control.
