At what age is it appropriate to start making your own financial decisions without your mother?

My mother is being super controlling. I have a chance to go see a new Broadway show and spend a day in NYC for only $100. My boyfriend is excited about this trip as is my sister who I am paying for. But she believes it's irresponsable and has forbidden anyone in the family from lending money if I should ever need it. Now that being said I'm a university student and work a job over the summer and on campus. I'm not sure that it's her business anymore. I'm feeling confused and alone so what do you think?

Once you make your own money you're entitled to do what you want with it. Your mom may always offer advice, but if it's your money then it's your decision to make at the end of the day.

If she is financially supporting you then I think she has a say but if she isn't financially supporting you at all then it's your money and she can't do anything about it.

I've made all of my own financial decisions since I turned 18, got a job and opened a bank account. My parents are very supportive and would have paid for me still but I pay for my own bills and the rest of the money I can do what I want with but I mostly put it away just in case:
