I'm irregular and sometimes don't ovulate until well after a 'missed' or 'skipped' period. I use the cheap dip strips because i have cycles where i don't o until cd30 or later and i never know when that long cycle will be; so i always have to start like it is one of my shorter 33 day cycles... if you have the cash for the tests it could be helpful because once you get a positive opk you'll know about when you should expect af.

I have very irregular periods, 5 a year some times less, and every month I ovulate, right around the same time if the month. I would test if you have the extra money! If not just baby dance and hope for the best!
