Is it hard to do it or you can't? Even if you have the dream act/daca? 
We live in Illinois and me and my husband we're very excited to change my last name he is a citizen from here the United States but after googling it doesn't seem easy now that they ask for a citizen birth certificate😞 did anyone change their last names that weren't born here or aren't citizens.

So here's the real answer, I just went through this whole process. I am from the Netherlands. Married my husband in 2015, got my green card in 2016. It's been almost a year. After I was approved I could get a social security number and I just had to show them my identification (which I had my Dutch passport and my CA drivers license) and my marriage certificate and after that it was all easy. Then last month I got my husband's last name added to my Dutch passport. Which I had to drive 200 miles to the Dutch consulate to get it changed, but they still had to keep my maiden name on it too, but they added my new last name to it too. Like I don't know what your current status is and what country you come from. But if you are not legally here in the US it will be real hard, if not impossible to have your name changed. Because almost everywhere they will ask you for proof of residency.

I may be wrong, but dont you become a legal citizen once you marry a legal citizen? I'm sure there's paperwork involved, but I thought that was a thing.

Once you married your husband who is citizen by birth, you can file forms with USCIS and one of them is asking if you want to change you last name. This process will allow you to first get a conditional green card for 3 years, and after you can remove the conditions and receive a regular green card. You should consult an immigration attorney. Just be VERY careful, because some of them can screw this up.

Im german, my husband American...I have his last name since we're married. Only in Germany I still have my maiden name but I will change that soon. Greencard has nothing to do with the last name.

My grandpa is American and married my grandma, who is Thai.

She has his last name now, (he has since passed ☹️❤️), but it must be possible.

There is paperwork for it somewhere. 🙈
