failed epidural

With my first, I had two epidurals that utterly failed and ended up getting fentanyl which knocked me out between contractions, so I would just wake up in pain and fall back asleep as it subsided. It was awful and I had planned on just going natural for this birth, but I was wondering if anyone had a failed epidural with one delivery and a successful one with a later birth?
