I pumped and supplemented. Then I transitioned him to just formula. You can always supplement not if your baby needs a certain type of formula you'll figure all that out with their doctor and trail and error.

Get advice from doctor about supplementing. My mom did it with all of her kids but my doctor now advises that I only breast feed for the first 2 months then whatever I want after that is okay.

It depends on the baby. Many formulas can cause digestive upset. You'll need to work with your child's pediatrician to figure out the right one for your baby

I was unsuccessful breastfeeding and did pumping so had a hard time keeping up with my son's needs. We started supplementing formula at around 6 weeks. Most of his food was breastmilk but definitely needed the formula for several months until I switched to formula around 6 months.
