Ultra Sound question

Is it normal for the technician to show you the screen during your scan? My first ultra sound is coming up soon and a friend of mine said she had an awful experience with her scan a few weeks ago the guy doing it did not let her SO into the room with her nor did he allow her to watch the screen. He told her not to talk to him because he would not be talking to her. Is this normal? I've waited 5 long months to see my baby and so has my SO. I just don't want to be disappointed.
