Can I choose not to be induced?

I hear so many stories about how it makes the contractions stronger and come faster. I have a very low pain tolerance and I'm worried the pain from inducing will be too much for me to handle. I also want my birth to be as natural as possible so I don't want to get an epidural. Are there any circumstances where I have to be induced?

If your baby is over 40 weeks, they will probably try and induce you. But if you don't want the epidural, don't take the pitocin. Your right about the pitocin making your contractions stronger and more intense then natural contractions. And when you do go into labor they may try and give you pitocin anyway to "speed things along" (happen to me). Just say no, I really wish I did. My best advice is let your body do what it does naturally and just listen to yourself.

You can choose to do whatever you want. You are in charge of your own body and your doctor works for you not the other way around! The best thing you can do is educate and inform yourself so you can make the best decisions possible.

You are in charge. You can deny anything. Even if it's already scheduled you can choose to not show up.

Research the medical reasons for an induction and decide for yourself if you'd be comfortable not getting induced in each situation. Induction without a medical reason isn't supported by research until 42 weeks and beyond. The only reason you would NEED an induction is a medical issue but even then you're in charge of your body.

There are several instances where a physician may feel it's best for your health and/or the baby's health for you to be induced. For example my first born hardly moved when he was in utero, and his heart rate was having dips that weren't accompanied by kicks or movement. So I was induced with him. With my second I was induced due to HIGH blood pressure. Those are the two circumstances I've experienced but there are other reasons too, almost always related to health issues.

You dont have to be induced but if its for the health of yourself and your unborn then you should consider and weigh the pros and cons if you have a low pain tolerance they can give you an epidural after they give you the pitocin

I had a really good experience with my induction went in at 10am already 3cm and 80thinned pit started 10:30/10:45am water broken at 6:30pm 7cm 80thinned my dr did have to manualy dilate and thin me since my contractions got too strong she had to insert a monitor on my daughters head she was fully delivered at 7:08pm i was induced for low weight on high risk scans and it was correct she was 4lbs 9oz born 37 weeks 1 day now 6 months old and thriving
