Should I be ashamed of breastfeeding with a nipple shield?

He was born prematurely and in the nicu so I was having to pump for 3wks and never had help latching him on so it's difficult to feed him without the shield now. I got the shield from the nurses at the hospital they helped a couple times but then he would only eat from the bottle when he turned one month old is when I was able to feed from my boob.

If you're concerned and would like to nurse without it seek an IBCLC. Nipple shields can do more harm than good in some cases and should be used under the direction of a lactation specialist.

I used one for the 11 months I nursed my daughter! It worked for me! Don't be ashamed, you're feeding your baby!

I had to use one for the first month because my son had a tongue-tie and couldn't use his tongue to manipulate the nipple. You do whatever you need to do to continue for as long as you want.
