how to avoid ingrown hairs?

i get ingrown hair very bad & i need to know a ways to avoid them after shaving or using nair.

Exfoliate. Get an exfoliating glove and do it every shower. I'm really prone to hair bumps and I haven't gotten any since I started.

I know it smells but I use men's after shave sometimes. It helps a lot with my ingrown hairs
Then I just wash it off after a half hour or so because I don't like smelling like an old man

How can you tell if you have ingrown hairs? I'm not sure if I do or not but I don't think I do. Have you tried waxing? That may help but could cause irritation. I usually shave in the direction that the hair is going in, so for me that's shaving down. Try using shaving cream or baby oil, something good for the skin. After shaving, apply some Aloe Vera or lotion.
