help! period but skipping pills

I'm on the pill and I've been skipping placebo pills. Last month I went completely without a period. But this month I had PMS and even though I've been doing everything right, I'm getting a normal period. It's not spotting it's a moderate flow. It completely messed up everything. I was out of town and had no products!!! I've heard it's normal to spot, but is this normal. Should I just wait a few more months?
