irregular period

I was taking birth control pills for ovarian cysts. I missed a month of pills and had a really awful and painful period. I went back on the pills after my period ended. I had missed a couple pills and would take them the next night like the directions said. I got to the end of my pack and took the placebos and still no period. Could it be my body recovering from the last cycle?
