Does Anyone Know If ......

Question

You pay for an ultrasound (those 3D ones) can you record the session with your phone ? Or do you have to ask the ultrasound tech for permission? I mean I am paying for it so I have a right to , dont I ?

I have a DVD of the whole session that I purchased as part of the package.

Typically a video is part of the package, at least it was included with the one I had during my last pregnancy.

I live in Ireland. We tried to record our 12 week ultrasound as we didn't think it would be an issue at all, but the ultrasound tech got really annoyed. She wouldn't continue until my fiance but his phone away.  My aunt is a midwife and she explained it's because of data protection as they are being recorded and also because people have tried to sue the techs in the past by saying e.g. "you said at my scan the baby was developing normally but you never told me xxxxxxxxx" 
It's also illegal in Ireland to record someone without them knowing. I would ask the tech if I were you. My experience was not a private scan though so maybe that's different

Not allowed to here. They will not do the session with your phone out. Needless to say we purchased a dvd of the 3D/4D ultrasound.

Typically they will give you a video of the ultrasound. But I don't think it's a problem

It's your baby and you're paying for the ultrasound I wouldn't ask I would just do it. My mom recorded my last ultrasound and we didn't ask for permission.

They told me yes but they also gave me a cd of it with music and also a cd of it where you could hear us talking which was fun because it was our early gender scan

Generally they always say yes. But ask first just in case. Some places have a policy against recording/taking video if the staff is in the shot.
